WE HAVE BEEN WITH YOU FOR 10 YEARS
Ivana Tykač had long been considering how to provide an assistance to women with children who were at risk of losing their housing. In 2012, she found a solution - dispersed housing with psychosocial support. So nothing stood in the way of W4W's activities - less than 2 months later, 10 women and their children were already our clients.

After a report about starving children aired on 168 Hours Czech Television TV programme, we knew that W4W had to address this problem. So on 12 September 2013, the W4W project Lunches for
Children - was launched spontaneously and quickly.

We had our experience and findings used to develop research mapping the real situation of single parents. The results were forwarded to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, drawing attention to a hidden problem. The Ministry subsequently decided to sponsor the W4W: Lunches for Children project. A year later, other government bodies joined in, including the Ministry of Education.

We have found that single parent problems often recur because single parents do not have enough information to avoid them. We created a book with stories and advice. "This book is like a first aid kit. You never know when you will need it," Ivana Tykač said at the launch of How to Survive the First Steps/Year.

We started a tradition to celebrate International Family Day. Our main mission is to help children, and children need a loving family, whatever the makeup of that family is. The first event, held in Grébovka, Prague, was attended by 1,500 people, and three years later it was almost 11,000 people.

W4W is the only organization in the Czech Republic to become a member of COFACE Families Europe - an international organization that listens to the needs of families in the European Union and beyond. In particular, COFACE Families Europe contributes to the creation of more appropriate and functional family policies in the European Union.

We launched the Adopt Maria project (nowadays known as W4W: Housing for Children – Security Deposit). The campaign of the project drew attention to the phenomenon and problems of single parenthood.
The aim of the project was, and still is, to ensure that single parents with children do not
have to live in shelters or hostels, or even separately, for economic reasons.

Not long after the first W4W branch in Most was established, we came up with a new
project W4W: Family Service. Its aim was, and still is, to help separating parents to agree on the childcare, so that the children are as little affected by the separation as possible. For this project, we were able to establish a cooperation with the District Court in Most.

2020
In 2020, following the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic, we launched the now completed
ICT for Children project. This ensured that the children from disadvantaged families were
provided with the ICT equipment so that they would not be cut off from the distance learning and the collective during school closures. We also provided refreshments and quarantine
accommodation for health workers in several hospitals in Prague.

In a cooperation with the Ministry of Education, we found a solution that allowed children to continue to pick up their lunches from school canteens even when schools were closed. Although social contact was lacking in the prevention of covid-19 infection, children did not have to be hungry even during distance learning periods.
